The Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione Will Make Your Ears Explode With Happiness

2/18/2016

Picture
Who doesn't love to watch a Ferrari on the track, especially if it's a special Ferrari that can lap the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes? We sure don't know of anyone.

This particular Ferrari is a 599XX that, according to the video, sold for $1.78 million at auction two years ago. As you would expect from a car that costs more than many people will make in their lifetime, it sounds incredible.

Even better, you won't have to struggle to see it since it's ridiculously-bright yellow. That's always a benefit, right?

That moment when Buzz Aldrin punches moon landing denier Bart Sibrel

2/18/2016

Picture
On September 9, 2002 moon landing denier Bart Sibrel followed Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin out of a Hollywood hotel and relentlessly harassed him about whether he actually landed on the moon. Buzz reacted. Many have seen the short clip of the actual punch, but note how much verbal confrontation preceded it. Sibrel has pulled similar stunts with many other Apollo astronauts. Californian authorities have decided against prosecuting former astronaut Buzz Aldrin after he punched a documentary maker who claimed his moon missions were faked.

Mr Aldrin responded by punching Mr Sibrel, but said he merely struck out to defend himself and his stepdaughter, who was with him at the time.Mr Aldrin, famous for his participation in the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, hit Bart Sibrel after he approached the former astronaut outside a hotel in Beverley Hills, Los Angeles and demanded he swear on a Bible that the landing was not staged.

Beverly Hills police investigated the incident, which occurred 9 September, but said that the charges were dropped after witnesses came forward to say that Mr Sibrel had aggressively poked Mr Aldrin with the Bible before he was punched.Witnesses also told police that Mr Sibrel had lured Mr Aldrin to the hotel under false pretences in order to interview him.  Deputy District Attorney Elizabeth Ratinoff told Reuters news agency that a videotape shot by a cameraman hired by Mr Sibrel had shown the film-maker follow Mr Aldrin, calling him a “thief, liar and coward”.

Mr Sibrel handed over the tape to police investigators, but as Mr Sibrel sustained no visible injury and did not seek medical attention, and Mr Aldrin had no previous criminal record, no charges were filed. Mr Sibrel says his new documentary proves the Apollo 11 landings were faked by the Nasa space agency in order to fool the then-Soviet Union into thinking the US had beaten them in the space race.

The two countries had been embroiled in a desperate race to reach the moon, with the US initially trailing after the Soviets became the first to send a man into space and orbit the earth.

Moon walk

Mr Aldrin, the second man after Neil Armstrong to set foot on the moon in the Apollo 11 mission, is one of America’s most famous space pioneers. A former US Air Force pilot who flew in the Korean war, Mr Aldrin joined Nasa space agency in 1963.

A Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 Makes a Perfectly Good Winter Car

2/17/2016

Picture
Don't ever listen to anyone who says you can't drive a supercar in the snow. Sure, a Diablo VT 6.0 can't necessarily go everywhere a Range Rover can, but with all-wheel-drive, it acquits itself quite well. Don't believe me? Just watch this video of one doing donuts in the snow along with a Ferrari F355.
With a low car like a Diablo, you have to be mindful of bottoming out, but otherwise, the all-wheel-drive sorts most everything else out. We here at Road & Track love rear-wheel-drive Lambos, but there are some clear advantages to all-wheel-drive.

See? A Diablo is pretty much the same thing as a Subaru Outback, except it has a 550 horsepower, mid-mounted V12 and scissor doors. Otherwise, virtually identical.

Feast Your Eyes On The First Pics Of The Porsche 919 Hybrid V4 Engine

2/17/2016

Picture
This is the Porsche 919 Hybrid, a real beast of an endurance car. It took the German manufacturer to the FIA World Endurance Championship drivers’ and teams’ titles in 2015, as well as winning the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours.

While we all know the LMP1 car is powered by a highly complicated turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with energy recovery systems, we haven’t actually seen official photographs. Well, that is until now.

The 2.0-litre V4 turbo is claimed by Porsche to be the most “innovative drivetrain concept on the entire grid” and the “most efficient combustion engine Porsche has built so far.”
The piece of engineering masterpiece features an exhaust energy recovery system, lithium-ion battery energy storage and hybrid management. All of this produces 900bhp. Aspects of it have even been picked up by road cars like the flat-four turbo-powered Porsche 718 Boxster.

Man Who Shot Crop Dusting Plane 18 Times Sentenced

2/16/2016

Picture
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- A man who shot a crop dusting plane 18 times in 2014 because it kept him from sleeping was sentenced today.

39-year old David Leroy Dickenson, of Miller, was sentenced to six years and six months in federal prison without parole and may pay $17,500 in restitution to the aircraft owner.

The shooting happened December 3, 2014, when a crop dusting plane was flying over Lawrence County.

Court documents say Dickenson was angry that a low-flying plane was keeping him from sleeping during the day, went outside with a 20-gauge shotgun and shot at the plane.

The plane was hit 18 times total.

The pilot, from Miami, Oklahoma told investigators he did not realize he had been fired at until he saw holes in the bottom of his place that appeared to be from a shotgun.

The pilot, who has a wife and a six-year-old daughter, was unharmed.

The federal indictment alleged that Dickenson attempted to set damage, destroy, disable and wreck the 1997 S2R 510 Thrush aircraft, then tried to dispose of the gun.

Wakeboarding in a Cranberry field Is beyond Cool

2/16/2016

Picture
Red Bull Winch Sessions explores what can happen when you combine high-powered winches with action sports such as snowboarding, wakeboarding, paragliding, and more.

In this episide of Winch Sessions, Josh Tranby and the crew travel to the town of Tomah in Wisconsin, to create a visually stunning wakeboarding session in a cranberry bog. The song name is "909s and Half Minds" by Jack D. Elliot.

Before harvest in Autumn, the irrigated fields where the cranberries are grown are flooded with between 6 inches to one foot of water, before a a harvester is driven through the waterbeds to remove the cranberries from their vines. The berries then float to the surface of the water, creating beautifully crimson carpets. The floating berries are then either pumped or conveyed to packing stations where they are sorted, cleaned and stored.

Prior to filming this episode of Red Bull Winch Sessions, Josh had never seen a cranberry bog, let alone wakeboard through one. "The Red Bull Winch has let us be able to ride something so unique, so different... you know, I never thought I'd be in Tomah, Wisconsin and winching a cranberry field."

What its like inside the M1 Abrams tank while firing.

2/16/2016

Picture
The M1 Abrams tank is the third generation of US main battle tank, whose number M1.

Since 1984 the main armament of the two variants M1A consists of a derivative of the Rheinmetall 120 mm gun, called M256A1. The first models, equipped with the 105mm cannon were removed from service. The secondary armament consists of two 7.62 mm machine guns, plus a 12.7mm machine gun that can be operated from inside the vehicle on most versions. The machine also has an NBC protection system, a laser rangefinder, a gyro-stabilized gun and a shooting system controlled by a dedicated computer. The M1A1 Abrams is distinguished by its Rheinmetall 120 mm gun of German origin, which equips also the Leopard tank 2. The newest, the M1A2 Abrams, is given a new fire control system (rotary thermal sight, an independent weapon station for the tank commander) and a new board computer (a data acquisition interface and communications, navigation and positioning equipment). This behemoth of about 61 tonnes is led by a crew of 4 men and can mainly darken at the speed of 72 km / h, and a distance of 465 km.
