2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS sets record 6:47.3 Nürburgring lap time

9/27/2017

All hail the new king of the ‘Ring.
Porsche has done it. The German sports car marque’s latest baby, the 2018 911 GT2 RS, has lapped the punishing Nürburgring-Nordschleife in time of only 6:47.3.
That’s the new record for production cars, and it was achieved with drive only going to the rear wheels. More amazing still is that Porsche didn’t just shave a few milliseconds off the previous record. It absolutely smashed it.
The previous record was the 6:52.01 set by the all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracán Performante in 2016. The fastest time for a rear-wheel-drive car was the 7:01.3 set by a Dodge Viper ACR at the start of September.
The GT2 RS's record run took place on September 20 and was by no means a fluke. With Porsche test driver Lars Kern and factory racing driver Nick Tandy taking turns on the track, the car was setting times below 6:50 almost immediately. In the end it was Kern who set the fastest time. His average speed on the 12.8-mile lap was 114.4 mph.
Porsche unveiled its latest GT2 RS in June at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. With 700 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque generated by its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 engine, the car is the most powerful 911 ever sold, and now it’s the fastest too. It means the two-seater weighing 3,241 pounds can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and top out at 211 mph.

The insane KEN BLOCK AND HIS 1,400-HP AWD  MUSTANG CONQUER PIKES PEAK IN 'CLIMBKHANA"

9/25/2017

Picture
Ken Block’s latest addition to his seemingly never-ending crazy driving video portfolio is something we all wish we could do -- run the Pikes Peak Hill Climb circuit. While that’s not in itself that crazy, Block takes his now-turbocharged Hoonicorn all-wheel-drive Ford Mustang up the hill with a constant trail of tire smoke.

You might recognize Block’s Mustang from an earlier Gymkhana installment. Blocks first Hoonicorn sported a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter V8 that spit 845 hp to a rally-bred all-wheel-drive system via a sequential transmission. The nearly 900-hp Mustang wasn’t powerful enough, it seems, and Block had a pair of turbochargers fitted to the engine, which now sends 1,400 hp to the same system.

Have you ever seen a 1,400 hp all-wheel-drive Mustang drift the entire way up Pikes Peak? No? Well, now you can.

Corner workers unlucky day at Formula D Event

This guy is not having a stellar day, as a F-D car comes flying into a corner it gets too close and hits a barrier barrell which therefore goes flying and hits the corner worker. Hopefully the guy is ok.

Ryan Tuerck's Ferrari-powered Scion drifts, crashes, fixes, and drifts again

9/23/2017

Picture
We were pretty astonished when Ryan Tuerck and Gumout shoved a Ferrari 458 V8 into a Scion FR-S. And as awesome as that fact alone may be, it's even more amazing that it's a fully functional drifter, not just a show car. Tuerck recently took it out to Portland, Ore. to do some sweet drifting on a mountain road. Unfortunately for him and the car, he did something substantially less sweet right off the bat.

As you'll see in the video, in just the second corner of the course, Tuerck drives the front corner of the GT4586 right into the dirt cliff on the side of the road. For a moment, it looks like things are all right, but the car starts pulling to the right and he stops the car for repairs. After fixing bits including a thoroughly bent tie-rod, the GT4586 is good as new.

We're glad the car wasn't down for long, because the drifting show following the repairs was fantastic. In the video, Tuerck throws the Scion into high-speed, super smoky drifts. And all of it happens to the tune of a shrieking Ferrari V8. It's well worth a few minutes of your time to watch.

Bulldozer Gone Wild: Police car squished during chase

9/22/2017

Picture
In video that appears like a scene from Transformers, a bulldozer backs over a police squad car on a Kankakee street-and then leads a cordon of cops on a low-speed chase.

The never-before-seen police dash cam videos, from various angles and numerous patrol cars, was obtained Monday by the ABC7 I-Team after a Freedom of Information Act filing.

Police say 18-year old Austin White of Bourbonnais had stolen the bulldozer from a Bradley construction site at 3 a.m. on August 24 and began driving it around streets in nearby Kankakee. Clearly seen on one video the bulldozer backs over a squad car when an officer tries to stop him. That officer can be seen running from the squad just as the car is being crushed by the bulldozer, that weighed about 20 tons.

An off-duty officer first reported seeing the bulldozer spinning around a Kankakee intersection and numerous on-duty units then responded.

After backing onto the squad car, other police vehicles followed the dozer along 12 city blocks. Video obtained by the I-Team shows officers on foot running next to the bulldozer and at times jumping onto the back in an effort to curb the heavy construction equipment.

This Man Rode a Rocket Bicycle 207 MPH

9/20/2017

Picture
When you think of fast rides, bicycles usually don't spring to mind, at least not before souped-up race cars and sleek motorcycles. Watching Francois Gissy speed over 207 miles per hour on a bicycle with a rocket strapped to it may change that.
Gissy rode the bike at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France last Friday, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a serious case of windburn now. Gissy has been riding these stripped down and powered up bikes for years, and this time he's broken his own record. Swiss company Exotic Thermal Engineering builds the rockets Gissy uses to propel his bike.
It took Gissy less than 5 seconds to go from 0 to 207 miles per hour. This is the world record for fastest biking, which isn't super surprising considering the whole rocket thing. Impressive nevertheless.

PORSCHE 991 GT2RS GOES SUB-7, IS ON COURSE FOR A NEW NÜRBURGRING NORDSCHLEIFE RECORD

9/20/2017

Picture

Standing at T13, the conditions tonight at the Nordschleife are perfect for a lap record. Cool air, dry surface, just a hint of sunshine peeking through the stormy clouds.
Porsche booked two full evenings just for laptiming this week; Tuesday and Wednesday. Yesterday the weather was much cooler, and the track a bit slippery. Locals reported laptimes of over 7-minutes.
Today is different. Standing at the outside of T13 left-hander, watching the very first lap of the bright yellow Porsche 991 GT2RS I take a photo of the car crossing the start line…
By listening to the driver come off the gas pedal, I’d say there’s a few more seconds you can take off this time. He cruised into sight taking several seconds to arrive in front of the camera. So don’t think 6m56s, think 6m54s or maybe less.
If the Porsche doesn’t beat the Lambo, I suspect I’ll be eating my own hat… they’re taking it pretty seriously. The whole Touristenfahrten carpark has been taken over by Porsche Sport. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s even have their own tyre-heater tents hiding behind the bushes!

That one time Richard Petty Refused to get off the track during a NASCAR race opener.

9/19/2017

Picture
Richard Petty is no doubt a racing legend, and a hell of a guy. He recently was the pace car in a vintage Nascar track car, and decided to do a few more laps than what he was supposed to. He eventually got black flagged by NASCAR officials, but no without having the last smile in the process. He's still is and always will be the king.

Watch a gnarly superbike crash unfold into a firey blaze

For a second we thought he might save it, but unfortunately that didn't happen, thankfully he walked away with minor injuries.
