Russian fighter jet executes 'unsafe' intercept of US Navy aircraft, coming within 25 feet of an American plane

4/22/2020

Picture
For the second time in four days, a Russian fighter jet conducted an "unsafe" intercept of a US aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea, the US Navy said on Sunday.
The Navy said in a press release that over roughly an hour and a half on Sunday, a Russian Su-35 fighter twice intercepted a US Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft operating in international airspace over the Mediterranean. While the first intercept was acceptable, the Navy considered the second "unsafe and unprofessional."
During the risky intercept, the Russian fighter executed a "high-speed, high-powered maneuver that decreased aircraft separation to within 25 feet, directly in front of the P-8A, exposing the US aircraft to wake turbulence and jet exhaust," the Navy said. The P-8A descended to create space between it and the Russian fighter jet.
The Navy accused the Russian pilot of "seriously jeopardizing the safety of flight of both aircraft."
The service captured the incident on video.
Sunday's intercept followed a similar incident on Wednesday, when a Russian Su-35 intercepted a P-8A over the Mediterranean, conducting "a high-speed, inverted maneuver, 25 ft. directly in front of the mission aircraft," the Navy said in a statement at the time.
The Navy said the Russian aircraft's actions were "irresponsible" and accused Russia of putting "our pilots and crew at risk."
In both cases, the Navy said, the US aircraft did not provoke the Russian fighters.

The US is battling a serious coronavirus outbreak, but US adversaries continue to cause headaches for the military.
Last week, the US Navy also had an unpleasant run-in with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
On Wednesday, 11 Iranian vessels "conducted dangerous and harassing approaches" against US Navy and Coast Guard vessels operating in the Persian Gulf, repeatedly crossing the bows and sterns of the US ships and at one point coming within 10 yards of a US vessel, the Navy said.
"This is why I said we must maintain our national mission capabilities — our readiness, our ability to protect the United States — because our adversaries are not standing down," Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said Thursday on NBC's "Today" show.

GM employees arrested after racing new 2020 Corvettes on Kentucky streets

4/22/2020

Picture
Two General Motors employees were arrested in Bowling Green after police caught them racing new Corvettes in excess of 100 mph on public roads.
Alexander Thim, 27, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and Mark Derkatz, 30, of Windsor, Ontario, were charged with racing a motor vehicle on a public highway, reckless driving and speeding.

Picture
Police said around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday they observed three 2020 Corvettes turning onto Lovers Lane and accelerating heavily.
According to the arrest report, a red Corvette reached 120 mph in the left lane and a white Corvette reached 140 mph in the right lane. The posted speed limit on the road was 45 mph.
Police said the third Corvette did not participate in the race.
Officials said GM owns all three cars involved in the incident.
After they were pulled over, the men told police they were GM employees and had recently left the Cue Time bar.
Both men were held in the Warren County Regional Jail on a $1,000 bond

Retirement day fighter jet ride ends in chaos after passenger pulls ejection seat midflight.

4/13/2020

Picture
The man had been surprised by employees at his firm, who had organized a joyride in a Dassault Rafale B jet for him as a treat.
But they apparently didn't know their colleague as well as they thought. Once the man arrived at the Saint-Dizier air base in northeastern France and realized what his co-workers had arranged, he began to feel extremely stressed, according to a fairly remarkable aviation accident report by a French government agency.
The unnamed man had never expressed any desire to fly in a fighter jet and had no previous military aviation experience, investigators discovered.

And thanks to a watch he was wearing which could measure his heart rate, investigators noticed that "his heart was in full tachycardia" before the flight, with a recorded heart rate ranging from 136 to 142 beats per minute.
But the man went through with the ride, joining a three-plane training exercise as a passenger. The Rafale B is used by the French air force, and has a maximum speed of nearly 1,400 kilometers per hour (870 miles per hour).

Picture
When the jet was 2,500 feet above ground and the pilot began to climb, the passenger panicked and reached for something to hold onto.
Unfortunately, that something was the ejector seat button -- and the 64-year-old flew from the fighter jet.
To make matters worse, he had not securely attached his helmet, which went flying in midair.
Fortunately, the man avoided seriously injury after tumbling to earth in a field near the German border.
Investigators concluded that the error was caused by an involuntary reflex, prompted by stress and the jet's sudden movement.
The pilot was not ejected and managed to land the plane safely, despite suffering some minor facial injuries during the ordeal.
The passenger, meanwhile, was taken to a nearby hospital after the flight

Ferrari Intends To Resume Production On April 14

3/27/2020

Picture
Ferrari was one of the first manufacturers to halt production at its Maranello plant in Italy due to the coronavirus outbreak. Initially, the company’s plans were to shut down its factory until March 27 but the unprecedented situation in the country is forcing the Prancing Horse to extend the production stop order.
Ferrari’s new decision is to resume production on 14 April 2020. It’s very important to note that this will happen only if the supply chain works without interruption and is able to provide all the necessary parts and components for the production process.
“All activities that can be conducted in smart working will continue to be performed as has been the case in recent weeks,” Ferrari explains in an official press release. “The company will continue to cover all days of absence to those unable to take advantage of this solution.”

The Maranello-based firm also says that “given the huge uncertainty and lack of predictability that the COVID-19 has created,” it will be in a position to provide further financial guidance to the investment community during a call on May 4, when its first-quarter earnings’ will be reported.
Just a few days after Ferrari announced it’s temporary stopping production on March 14, the supercar automaker was joined by rival manufacturer Lamborghini. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which currently owns Maserati, also said it is halting production in Europe on March 16.

According to the latest data from Worldometers, currently, there are 62,013 active COVID-19 cases in Italy, 3,612 of which are being described as critical.

World's first manned aerobatic drone shown pulling loops and rolls.

3/27/2020

Picture
This racy-looking 12-rotor coaxial multicopter has been filmed in Croatia pulling extreme rolls and loops, and carrying a human on board. Not at the same time, mind you, but still, to see a drone of this size pulling stunts like this is astonishing.
Built by Drone Champions AG, in order to promote its Drone Champions League video game, this is a full-sized, full carbon airframe with six arms extending outwards from an aerodynamically faired chassis, each with a pair of coaxial rotors mounted at the ends. A central seat can carry a passenger – not a pilot, as this drone is built to be flown from the ground by trained drone racing pilots over remote control.
The team took the "Big Drone," as it's called, to Vrsar, in Croatia, to put it through some extreme maneuvers, and a Red Bull detachment followed to film and photograph the event. With a dummy passenger on board, the team performed a bunch of wild aerobatic maneuvers, including extravagant rolls and loops, the likes of which we've never seen in a multicopter this large.

"We have developed and built the first-ever manned aerobatic drone with the vision to create a brand-new future racing experience and to recruit drone pilots through DCL – The Game," says Drone Champions founder and CEO, Herbert Weirather. "Everyone should have the opportunity to fly, and DCL – The Game provides a starting point."
There's no word as yet on whether the team plans to do manned aerobatic flights, and we suspect it'll remain that way for a while. But it's clear the machines can do it, leaving just the safety considerations to be taken care of.

Watch This Porsche 911 Turbo Pull Wheelies at the Drag Strip

3/26/2020

Picture
The rear-engine layout of the Porsche 911 has some serious advantages on the drag strip. When you're launching from a standstill, having a lot of the car's weight directly over the rear axle helps you put the power down to the rear wheels. But it also means there's not a lot hanging over the front axle, making the 911 capable of serious wheelies when modified.

ESMotor, a Turkish tuning company, demonstrated that on Facebook earlier this week. The company posted a video of a 2016 911 Turbo S modified by ESMotor lifting both front tires at the drag strip. Despite the all-wheel-drive 911 clearly not having traction at the front, it still managed to run in the mid-eights on its quarter-mile run. As shown in the video, on its third run, the 911 crossed the line in 8.68 seconds and was going nearly 170 mph.
The company hasn't listed a power output for its full TT kit, but with a 0-62 time of 2.06 seconds and 0-124 of 5.28 seconds, it's clearly putting out some insane numbers. For reference, our last instrumented test of the 911 Turbo S saw the car hitting 60 in 2.6 seconds and dispatching a quarter mile in 10.9 seconds at 124.4 mph. So clearly this isn't just a grip upgrade; the ESMotor modified 911 charges harder from the beginning and carries a massive speed advantage down the entire strip.
Yet, it's not even the fastest car ESMotor has built. The company claims that its full suite of mods—including custom turbos, ECU tuning, transmission upgrades, and more—can boost output to around 1800 horsepower. That's gotten one of their cars into the sevens, ripping through a quarter mile in 7.95 seconds at a bonkers trap speed of 190 mph.

Transition to winged flight marks another world-first for Jetman

3/23/2020

Picture
After demonstrating its autonomous VTOL capabilities last December, the Jetman team has now joined the dots to show how it can transition from an electronically balanced hover to super-fast winged flight in a demo done over Dubai on Valentine's day.
The winged flight capability sets the Jetman team apart from other jet-powered personal flight devices like jet boards, jetpacks and jet suits, because it allows more efficient flight at very high speeds of up to 400 km/h (250 mph), as well as some pretty awesome aerobatic capabilities. The Jetman team is the only group willing to take its device up to high altitudes at this point, and has flown alongside airliners in previous flights when launched aerially out of other aircraft.
In this new video, Nathan Finneman hovers briefly after takeoff before hammering the throttle and rocketing the new four-turbine jet wing up to an altitude of 1,800 m (6,000 ft) over the city of Dubai, performing some gratuitous loops and then pulling the parachute cord for a soft landing. No point wasting fuel on a VTOL landing when a 'chute will do the job just fine!
The entire flight lasted just three minutes, reflecting just how fast this jet wing can fire itself skyward. The transition to winged flight looked pretty much effortless, Reffet accelerating away at an astonishing rate to catch some air under the wing and swoop upward. It makes for pretty amazing viewing in the video below.

Watch Bentley's Twin-Turbo W-12 Being Assembled by Hand

2/17/2020

Picture
Bentley's W-12 is one of the most interesting engines on sale today. It's called a "W" because, instead of a traditional V shape, the cylinders are laid out in two stacked vees. It's sort of like two VR6 engines sharing one crankshaft.
If you're intrigued by the engine's design as much as we are, then why not kill a few minutes watching a W-12 being assembled at Bentley's Crewe factory in England? This video shows how this engine, found in cars like the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga, goes from bare block to full-on drivetrain, all in one go.
The video shows the engine being assembled, as well as the moment where it's mated to the transmission, subframe, and front suspension system. There are close-up detail shots of everything, too, meaning you can really nerd out if you're so inclined. There's even a clip of the engine running on a dyno for a few seconds after it's assembled. If you have some time today, it's certainly worth a watch.

Adventuring with R00T 66 Brand

1/6/2020

We recently teamed up with Root 66 CBD brand on an adventure. Now what I really appreciate about this brand is this emphasis on natural ingredients. I have never been a huge fan of pharmaceutics grade contents. My body doesn't approve of it, and in today's world there is far too much of it going around. Root 66 however is a breed from the rest. Their entire contents are all natural. One of their products was for sleep, something I have struggled from time to time. I tried it for a week and was shocked how well it worked. Primarily on waking up and not feeling groggy. The have a ton of other amazing products aswell. One in particular that I really liked was for pain. I had recently gone on a moto adventure, and had got my right leg stuck between a tree and the bike. At the time I had so much adrenaline running through me that I didn’t feel any pain. However after the days ride I knew something would be hurting. Sure as right nearly 6 hours later I felt like I was 80 years old and could barely move. I took 2 drops of the Root 66 pain relief, and within minutes I felt my aches seemingly disappear. Whats really great about the product is their is no adverse effects. Its merely created to target the areas you need. They offer products ranging from sleep, focus, energy and pain. They are a great company and have 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Give them a shot, and by clicking on the the link below.

Drunk bloke invades Polish town driving a Soviet T-55 tank

6/24/2019

Picture
A ONE-MAN-ARMY rumbled through the streets of Poland last week invading a small town while hammered — with a Soviet tank.
The 36 tonne T-55 tank barrelled through the streets of Pajęczno at around 10pm last Thursday night.
Picture
Furious (and possibly terrified) locals called the cops to stop the war machine menacing the roads.
When police did arrive, the 1940s tank parked up on a central street, Twoje Pajęczno reports.
Officers arriving at the bizarre scene on Mickiewicza Street found a man standing next to the tank who had been a passenger.
They also found an intoxicated 49-year-old bloke nearby — who had been driving the T-55 when reports were made to the authorities.
It transpired that the man had been given permission to drive the tank — but he was only supposed to have placed it on and off a trailer for transportation.
But he decided to rag it around a small town in the middle of the night instead.
The drunk driver's situation got even worse when police found the tank wasn't even insured.
Cops couldn't clear the massive machine off the road until 5am when a former soldier who could drive the tank was called in to get it loaded onto a tow truck.
It turns out the whole fiasco started when the trailer the tank was being moved on broke and had to be fixed.
While it was being repaired, the boozed-up driver decided to take the tank for a spin instead of just loading it back onto the trailer as he was supposed to.
