Bernie Ecclestone Is Out At Formula One.

2/13/2017

Picture
Longtime Formula One impresario Bernie Ecclestone has been forced to resign from his leadership position over by the sport’s new owners Liberty Media, reports Auto Motor und Sport. New F1 chairman Chase Carey has taken over his former responsibilities.
Ecclestone told Auto Motor und Sport, as translated by Google:
I was deposed today. Just go away. This is official. I do not run the company anymore. My position has been taken over by Chase Carey.
Carey was announced as Formula One’s new chairman right after Liberty Media announced their purchase of the sport. This change means that he will fulfill the duties of both the chairman and CEO.

Ecclestone’s departure means that others will now handle contracts with race organizers and broadcasters, as well as serve as a political liaison between teams, the FIA, and other stakeholders.

It is understood that Liberty Media wants to divide Ecclestone’s former responsibilities among multiple people. Auto Motor und Sport and Motorsport.comboth report that ex-Ferrari and Mercedes head Ross Brawn is still in the picture to fill a leadership role over F1's sporting side. Former ESPN sales and marketing executive Sean Bratches is expected to take over F1's commercial side, per Motorsport.com. [Update: Both of these hires have now been confirmed. See note below.]

Ecclestone also confirmed to Auto Motor und Sport that he was offered the position of “Honorary President,” to keep him around for his years of experience and expertise with the sport, however, he is not sure what this means, and it’s clear that it lacks much power. Ecclestone said, as translated by Google:

My new position is now such an American expression. A kind of honorary president. I’ll get this title without knowing what it means.

Ecclestone is 86 years old, and has served in a leadership role over Formula One for over 40 years.

Liberty Media and Formula One have yet to confirm the change, with an official confirmation not expected until Tuesday, per Motorsport.com. The FIA just approved of F1's sale to Liberty Media at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council last Wednesday.

UPDATE [3:34 p.m.]: Formula One has confirmed that Liberty Media’s purchase of Formula One is complete, and that Bernie Ecclestone will be moving to a Chairman Emeritus role:

Liberty Media Corporation and Delta Topco, the parent company of Formula 1 announced today that Liberty Media has completed its previously announced acquisition of F1, the iconic global motorsports business, from a consortium of sellers. F1 has appointed Chase Carey as Chief Executive Officer of F1, in addition to his existing role as Chairman, and Bernie Ecclestone as Chairman Emeritus of F1. Bernie Ecclestone, who has given valuable service to F1 over many years, will be available as a source of advice for the board of F1.

Today, Liberty acquired 100% of the shares in Formula One, which represent an enterprise value for F1 of $8 billion. As part of the transaction, the Liberty Media Group will be renamed the Formula One Group, to be traded under the ticker symbol FWON. You can read more about the financial particulars of the sale here.

Bernie had complimentary words for his successors in Formula One’s announcement:

I’m proud of the business that I built over the last 40 years and all that I have achieved with Formula 1, and would like to thank all of the promoters, teams, sponsors and television companies that I have worked with. I’m very pleased that the business has been acquired by Liberty and that it intends to invest in the future of F1. I am sure that Chase will execute his role in a way that will benefit the sport.

Additionally, Liberty Media President and CEO Greg Maffei and new F1 Chairman and CEO Chase Carey will appear on the CNBC show Squawk Box at 7:00 a.m. ET Tuesday morning to discuss the sale.

Formula One also confirmed the addition of Ross Brawn as Managing Director, Motor Sports, and of Sean Bratches as Managing Director, Commercial Operations.

Brawn is well-known in the Formula One world, having played a role in numerous world championships with Ferrari, Benetton, Williams and BrawnGP—the latter of which became the Mercedes F1 team that has dominated the past few seasons. Brawn has been acting as a consultant to Liberty Media throughout the sale of F1.

Bratches’ last job was as the Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ESPN, and he brings over 27 years of commercial-side experience to the role.

Friend of the blog, the.leviathan, has already taken his dad out in his McLaren 650S and made him quite unhappy. Now, it’s his mom’s turn.

In his latest YouTube video, he had his mom in the passenger seat while he rocketed around, throwing her back into her seat. He used his McLaren’s monster twin-turbo V8 to give her with what she called her “best ride ever.” Although, she did end up getting sick after the video. Shame on you, Leviathan, for gettin’ your mom sick!

Check out the video below and let me know what your mom would do if you drove her around in a McLaren. My mom? She’d be begging for me to let her drive it!

Lamborghini Goes Street Racing With A Couple Of Hondas And Regrets It Immediately!

2/12/2017

Lamborghini gets gapped by a few hondas!

That Honda was way too close for comfort! That Lamborghini probably cost as much as 5 of those hondas… But he still got walked by them. Lining up four wide is always a little sketchy especially when you have a car that cost as much as all the cars around you. At least this guy was a good sport about it, most Lamborghini guys won’t race anyone. Time to put some twins on the Lambo!

1969 CAMARO SS Started After 28 Years RUSTING In Storage! Watch How The Car Runs 3 YEARS LATER!

2/8/2017

Picture
In this one, we gain some traction on a 1969 Camaro SS Big Block project. It`s a big block car but it currently has a 327 small block engine in it because the original engine was lost. It was swapped with the 327 back in the 80`s. The car was found sitting idly and rusting in Anchorage, Alaska in someone`s backyard. When the hood was opened, the small block 327 engine was in a very bad shape covered in leafs, debris and moss. It also had no headers, air cleaner and half the plugs were missing. 3 years ago, the car was first started after 28 years of neglect.

After they got the engine running for the first time they added coolant in the radiator hose and discovered quickly that there was water frozen in the engine in the wintertime. Because of this, they removed the intake manifold and discovered that there was a crack in the lifter value causing the water to get into the oil. They did the necessary fixing and now the car has been sitting 3 years in their garage after their first start up. Finally, they decided to give us an update on the 1969 Camaro SS Big Block project. To find out what happened to the car watch the video below.

60-Year Old Vintage HYDROPLANE With A 1500HP WW2 Aircraft ENGINE!

2/7/2017

Picture
There are many unique setups for all kinds of things that go super-fast. In this one, we stumbled upon one crazy combination that we must learn more about. Immediately upon seeing this boat, our inner gearhead was completely awaken. What we actually have in this video is a 60 year old vintage hydroplane named US U-36. To see a boat like this is awesome enough just on the outside. However, what lurks inside this racing boat makes watching it in action even more spectacular. You might not expect this, but this racing boat is fitted with an engine that dates from the World War 2 era.

To be more precise, it`s a fighter plane engine which according to the description of this video it`s an Allison V-1710. It supposedly delivers 1500HP! This engine was used in a lot of WW2 fighter planes like the P-51 Mustang and P-38 Lighting. Getting into a vintage hydroplane like this would be a treat for every gearhead. Imagine being behind the controls of this water monster. With so much power, this boat looks like it`s going to take off out of the river and go into the sky. This is a perfect showcase of old school technology. What do you think about this craft?
